- Description
-
ASOPCAFA is an agricultural cooperative that was founded in 2011 in Aipe, Huila, Colombia. The organization has 85 members working across 170 hectares of organic certified land on Mount Huila, the tallest active volcano in the Andes Mountains.
-
For years, Huila has been home to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, a Guerilla People's Army that has been fighting the Colombian government. In recent years, though, their presence has weakened and violence has diminished, which has allowed green coffee cultivation to flourish there. Huila is now one of the premier coffee regions in the Americas and is beginning to be recognized internationally.
